Article history: Received 25 October 2015 Received in revised form 2 December 2015 Accepted 3 December 2015 Available online 17 December 2015 We investigated the strain rate sensitivity (SRS) of freestanding ultrafine-grained aluminum films with similar thickness (~240 nm) and mean grain size (~275 nm) but highly dissimilar texture. For (110) textured bicrystalline films, flow stress increased by 14% (m = 0.017) as the strain rate was varied from ~7 × 10/s to 5 × 10/s. In contrast, for non-textured films the flow stress increased by more than 90% (m = 0.103) over a similar strain rate range. The drastic difference in SRS can be explained by texture-induced changes in deformation mechanisms of the films, as revealed by in situ TEM straining experiments. © 2015 Elsevier Ltd. Evolution of texture in an ultrafine and nano grained magnesium alloy
The evolution of texture was discussed during the formation of ultra-fine and nano grains in a magnesium alloy severely deformed through accumulative back extrusion (ABE). The microstructure and texture obtained after applying multiple deformation passes at temperatures of 100 and 250°C were characterized. The results showed that after single ABE pass at 100°C an ultrafine/nano grained microstr...
متن کاملEffect of grain size on strain rate sensitivity of cryomilled Al– Mg alloy
Al–Mg alloy powder was cryomilled to achieve a nanocrystalline (NC) structure having an average grain size of 50 nm with high thermal stability, and then consolidated by quasi-isostatic forging. The consolidation resulted in a bulk material with ultrafine grains of about 250 nm, and the material exhibited enhanced strength compared to conventionally processed Al–Mg alloy. The hardness of as-cry...
متن کاملDeveloping ultrafine-grained materials with high strength and good ductility for micro-forming applications
Materials with ultrafine grain sizes are attractive for use in micro-forming operations. High-pressure torsion (HPT) is an effective technique that allows disc materials subjected to torsional deformation to generate microstructures with significant grain refinement. Generally, ultrafine-grained materials exhibit high strength but their ductility is limited because they have both a low rate of ...

In the present work, nano/ultrafine structured Al/Brass composite was produced by accumulative roll bonding (ARB) up to eight cycles. The evolution of grain refinement and deformation texture and their effect on the mechanical properties were investigated. It was observed that by increasing the ARB cycles, due to the difference in flow properties of the metal constituents, brass layers necked, ...
